Take Yourself Out on a Date

Kaitlyn Luckow

February is the month of love: Valentine’s Day and Galentine’s Day are holidays that celebrate the special people you love in your life, but they’re largely forgetting the most important person in your life: YOU!

While you’re busy trying to plan a perfect date for your significant other or plan the perfect night to celebrate your besties, you can’t forget about yourself. But, let’s be real, most of us do.

So, I want to challenge you this month to something maybe a little crazy: take yourself out on a date. Yup. You heard that right: date yourself.

You deserve to spend time and energy on making your heart full and your energy renewed. You deserve to show yourself that you deserve your own love.

Going on a date by yourself may seem scary, nerve-wracking, and some people may say lame, but I assure you that it’s not.

Here are some date ideas for you and your lovely self:

Spend A Night In

If you’re a homebody like me, you may want to stay-at-home for your date night, but that doesn’t have to make it any less special.

The first thing I want you to do on this date is to hide your phone somewhere where you can’t use it. Yup. All night. You don’t need anything disrupting you or anything on social media to make you feel bad about yourself. Don’t let that toxicity in.

Next, take the time to do something you’re always telling yourself you want to do, but never actually get around to doing it. Maybe that’s reading a book, or writing a story, or binging that show everyone’s talking about.

While you’re at it, make or order yourself your favorite food in the world and prepare yourself your favorite drink. Don’t worry about calories or anything like that. This is all about you enjoying everything you’re surrounding yourself with.

Catch the Sunrise

I used to treat myself to this date every morning and it really changed my life. If you’re an especially busy person and don’t think you’ll be able to find the time to dedicate a night to take yourself out, take a morning instead. Wake up a half an hour before you usually do. Make yourself a cup of coffee and grab your favorite pastry. On your way to work, stop somewhere in your city that would be a perfect place to watch the sunrise.

Go there, park your car, and enjoy the silence that is just you, your coffee, and the sun. There is truly nothing more rejuvenating.

Treat Yourself to a Photoshoot

It’s important that you are constantly celebrating and reminding yourself of your inner and outer beauty. One way that you can do this is to book a shoot with a local photographer.

It may seem like an uncomfortable thing to do, especially if you’ve never done one before, but trust me, you are going to feel invincible during and after your shoot.

Go on a Spontaneous Road Trip

Is there a town or city an hour or two away from you that you have never been before? Hop in your car and head over there!

Blast your favorite tunes, roll the windows down (if it’s not freezing) and drive yourself to a new place you have never been.

Spend the day exploring this new place with no agenda or itinerary. Check out a local coffee shop, maybe stumble upon an obscure museum, or take a walk through a park.

It’s exciting to push yourself out of your comfort zone and experience new people and places.
